Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 28, 2026
The Tinfoil Tribune is a reading site. You do not need an account, and we do not sell personal information. This page explains what information is involved when you visit.
Information we collect
- Anonymous story view counter. When you open a story, your browser tells our server which story you read, so we can show a "Most Read" list. To avoid counting the same reader twice in a day, the server combines your IP address with the date and story name and runs them through a one-way hash. Only that hash is stored, for about two days. Your IP address itself is not stored. Only total views per story are kept long term. Your browser also saves a small note in its local storage (the story name and date) so it does not send the same view twice in one day. This is not a cookie and is never sent to anyone.
- Contact form. If you write to us through the contact form, the name, email address and message you enter are sent through FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), a form-forwarding service, which delivers them to the editors. We use them only to read and, if needed, reply to your message. See FormSubmit's privacy policy.
- Donations. Contributions are handled entirely by Ko-fi on its own website. We never see your card or bank details. Ko-fi's handling of your information is covered by Ko-fi's privacy policy.
- Hosting and security. The site is served through Cloudflare, which processes technical information such as IP addresses to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
Advertising
We use, or may use, Google AdSense to show ads on this site. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu. Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
Where the law requires it, for example in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we will ask for your consent before personalized ads or advertising cookies are used. See our Cookie Notice for details.
Links to other sites
Stories link to outside sources such as government archives, news sites and academic papers. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control.
Children
The Tribune is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your choices and rights
You can block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings, and use the opt-out links above. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access or delete personal information about you. Because we keep so little, there is usually nothing to retrieve, but you can ask through the contact form.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
